We suck

As you've probably heard before, the human eye sucks. It's a piece of crap. For starters, the "film" (retina) is wired backwards. So to compensate, we have this ginormous signal processor known as the visual cortex.

This video will short yours out. Thanks Bill!!!

Subject: THE NEW TIGER WOOD JOKES

What's the difference between a car and a golf ball?  Tiger Woods can drive a golf ball 300 yards.

Why did Tiger Woods hit a fire hydrant and a tree?  He couldn't decide between an iron and a wood.

Tiger Woods wife is the only person who can beat him with a golf club!

What were Tiger Woods and his wife doing out at 2.30 in the morning? They went clubbing

What club did Elin use to 'rescue' her husband? A bitching wedge.

The Chinese are already making a movie about Tiger Woods' crash. They are calling it, "Scratching Swede, Lying Tiger."

Tiger just changed his nickname but still kept it in the cat family--his new name?    Cheetah

What do Tiger Woods and baby seals have in common?  They're both clubbed by Norwegians!

Tiger crashed his car because he was in a rush to move on to the second hole.

Blu-Ray on Netflix profiles

I just got off the phone with Netflix support. I had signed up for BD support but the profiles didn't have it.

Here's how you enable it on a profile:
 1. Find a movie in the profile's queue that has Blu-Ray.
 2. Remove it from the queue
 3. Search for it.
 4. Add it back.
 5. You'll see a link that says that movie is also on Blu-Ray.
 6. Click the link.
 7. It says this profile doesn't have Blu-Ray access.
 8. Click "Change"
 9. Allow Blu-Ray for that profile.

Very convoluted and a pain, but at least the answer wasn't "NO."

DD-WRT

So I bought a wireless N router for $35 the other day. Hacked it today with DD-WRT.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001R4BYT4?ie=UTF8&tag=aarondmarascoaar&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B001R4BYT4

It is AWESOME. I want a second to make a WLAN bridge for the entertainment center. Amazon is out of stock until JANUARY. And they raised the price by $5. :(

So, I figure check NewEgg. They had it for $45. OK, fine, another $5 and I get it before Christmas. So I cancel my Amazon order. Go to NewEgg via FatWallet to make sure to get my 1% back. Now NewEgg has it for $70! It was $45 15 minutes ago!!!

DAMMIT!

So now it is on back-order again at Amazon... :(

Stupid "mom" internet ads

I normally use "AdBlock Plus" for Firefox. However, I cannot use it for work. Apparently, every ad on the internet now says that a "mom" of some kind has done something.

On ONE single page, we have:
Banner ad across top:
"Baltimore Mom lost 47 lbs following one rule"
"Local Mom Makes $6977/Month!"

OK, on the right of the article:
"Don't pay for White Teeth - Columbia Mom discovers one simple trick..." - OK, their IP geolocation says Columbia, the other ad network says Baltimore.
"Acai Berry Exposed"

Farther to the right:
"Don't pay for White Teeth - Columbia Mom..." - EXACT same ad
"Acai Berry Exposed" - Ditto
"Columbia Mom Lost 46lbs Following 1 Rule" - apparently, they realized that 47 sounded too far fetched? Or Baltimore vs Columbia thing going on?

Then, at the bottom of the page:
"Baltimore: Local Mom Makes $6927/Month!" - Again, was the extra $50 from the top of the page too much exaggeration?
"DON'T Let the Dentist Fool You: Single mom discovers 1 simple trick..." - So single moms are apparently even more trustworthy than "local" ones?

WTF? Is ANYBODY stupid enough to believe ANY of this crap??? They must be, or else the ads wouldn't be there!

The countdown is up

---------- Forwarded message ----------
From: Jason Matusiak

The countdown is alive and well (for now).  The only change to this year was that I added GPS.  Now when power is applied, it will grab the current day/time from the GPS.  So now if I lose power, when it boots it grabs the time and looks to see if the toggle switch is set to countdown to Christmas mode, if it is, it just starts counting down.  Makes my life a lot easier when there is silly 2 second power outages.  Maybe next year I will make a new frame for the whole display.

P.S.  Be on the lookout for light up labels (days, hours, etc.) to come sometime soon.

Interesting points...

Forwarded from my dad...

If  George W. Bush had spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to take Laura Bush to a play in NYC, would you have  approved?

If  George W. Bush had reduced your retirement plan's holdings of GM stock by  90% and given the unions a majority stake in GM, would you have  approved?

If  George W.  Bush had made a joke at the expense of the  Special Olympics, would you have approved?

If  George W. Bush had given Gordon  Brown a set of inexpensive and incorrectly formatted DVDs, when  Gordon Brown had given him a thoughtful and  historically significant gift, would you  have approved?

If  George W. Bush had given the Queen of  England an iPod containing videos of  his speeches, would you have thought this embarrassingly

narcissistic and  tacky?

If  George W. Bush had bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia , would you have approved?

If  George W. Bush had visited Austria   and made reference to the non-existent"Austrian language," would you  have brushed it off as a minor  slip?

If  George W. Bush had filled his cabinet and circle of advisers  with people who cannotseem to keep current on their income taxes,

would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had been so Spanish illiterate as  to refer to "Cinco de Cuatro" in front of the Mexican ambassador when it  was the fourth of May (Cuatro de Mayo), and continued to flub it when he tried again, would you have winced in  embarrassment?

If George W.  Bush had mis-spelled the word advice would you have hammered him for it for years like Dan Quayle and  potatoe as proof of what a dunce he is?

If George W.  Bush had burned 9,000 gallons of jet fuel to go plant a single tree on Earth Day, would you have concluded he's a hypocrite?

If George W.  Bush's administration had okayed Air Force One flying low over millions of  people followed

by a jet fighter in downtown Manhattan causing widespread panic, would you have wondered whether they actually get what happened  on 9-11?

If George W.  Bush had been the first President to need a teleprompter installed to be  able to get through a press conference, would you have laughed and said this is more proof of how he inept he is on his own and is really controlled by smarter men behind the scenes?

If George W.  Bush had failed to send relief aid to flood victims throughout  the Midwest with more

people killed or made homeless than in New Orleans ,  would you want it made into a major ongoing

political issue with claims of  racism and incompetence?

If  George W. Bush had ordered the firing of the CEO of a  major corporation, even though he had no constitutional authority to  do so,

would you have  approved?

If  George W. Bush  had proposed to double the national debt, which had taken more than  two centuries to accumulate, in one year, would you have approved?

If  George W. Bush had then proposed to double the debt again within  10 years, would you have approved?

So, tell  me again, what is it about Obama that makes him so brilliant and  impressive?

Can't think of anything? Don't worry.

He's done all  this in 5 months -- so you'll have three years and seven months to come up with an answer.

So I said to him, "Barack, I know Abe Lincoln, and you ain't Abe Lincoln."

You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.

You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.

You cannot build character and courage by taking away people's initiative and independence.
You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves.
